Life Buoy Beanbag Complete

by Suzanne Robinson on 07/12/11

The Life Buoy Beanbag is complete and looks fabulous!

My first born son is very happy with his new beanbag and I am happy with not having to look at the old one! It took about four hours, but was very straightforward and a great way to use up the old beans. So I will write up the pattern soon and add it to the online store.

In the meantime I've been working on a couple of freebies! Hoping to post the first of 5 free patterns tomorrow. So stayed tuned for really simple, easy to follow sewing patterns. I will make sure they are all super easy and super quick to make - I've set myself a challenge of 5 patterns which take less than 15 minutes each to sew. Wish me luck.

Ships Ahoy for a Life Buoy!

by Suzanne Robinson on 07/06/11

My Baby boys are out of town for the weekend, so it's a perfect time to get some uninterrupted craft time in. For some time now, my eldest son has had an old bean bag in his room, which was put there with the plan of reinventing the cover and reusing the beans. So no time like the present!

I didn't just want to make another plain beanbag shape, I wanted something a bit more creative. So in keep with his nautical themed room, I have decided to attempt a life buupolsoy inspired bean bag. A perfect place for kicking back and playing his i-touch or whatever the latest gadget is. So with some leftover upholstery fabric from when I recovered our lounge chairs, I am going to attempt a life buoy bean bag. If successful I will of course, share the how to's with you all, but for now it's off to the sewing room.

I will post photos here as soon as it's finished. Wish me luck!

Fast is Fabulous!

by Suzanne Robinson on 07/04/11

Tonight I am watching the first episode of Project Runway Australia Season 2. This show is proof to me that fast is fabulous. These talented designers manage to create the most gorgeous creations in such short periods of time. Whilst I'm sure they would like more time to make their creations come to life - they still produce the most amazing garments even in such time pressure.

I love the creativity that the challenges ellicit from the designers. I think I would thrive if I had someone set me a creative challenge every day (and the time to work on it uninterrupted!). I think I will set my own challenges for myself that I have to follow. Is anyone else interested in joining in on completing the challenges or contributing to setting the challenges?

Do or Teach?

by Suzanne Robinson on 07/03/11

There's an old saying 'Those who can do, those who can't teach". Whilst the connotation is a negative one upon the teacher, I find myself looking at the saying in a new light. I definately fall in the "those who can't" category. I can't follow difficult sewing patterns, I can't spend hours on a project - without questioning - is there a better way?

Repeatedly asking myself that question - led me to finding my own way, and evenually designing my own patterns for others who feel the same as me. I started designing really simple, easy to follow sewing patterns suitable for beginners. With my first pattern complete with step by step colour photographs, I put it out there to the world for sale on the internet to see if there was any interest. That was 5 years ago.

This week I celebrated the sale of my 1000th pattern!! Had anyone have told me 5 years ago that I would sell 1000 sewing patterns - I would have laughed. But what it has showed me is that you are out there. Other sewers and crafters just like me that love to create beautiful handmade items - but are time poor. So if speedy craft is your thing, I vow to teach you a quicker way to meet you goals. I am commiting to a posting a new pattern every week to my pattern store which will show you step by step a quick and easy way to create a personal handmade project.

So it seems there is some truth in the saying, as "I can't" and so now "I teach". And hopefully you will enjoy learning.

Welcome to Impatient Sewers Anonymous!

by Suzanne Robinson on 06/27/11

This blog is dedicated to Impatient Sewers everywhere. I am a self professed Impatient Sewer, don't get me wrong, I love to sew, but I have the patience of a three year old (I also have a three year old, which means my sewing time is even more limited). For years I have fought the urge to simplify my sewing. I always buy ambitious detailed patterns, and loose interest half way through. My sewing room is full of UFO's (Un-Finished Objects). So in this blog I want to share with you how I have simplified my sewing and crafting life. And I would love it if you would share any tips you may have with me. So Impatient Sewers and Crafters unite!
